Electrical BIM Coordinator Duties & Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain accurate 2D and 3D BIM models for electrical systems, including lighting, power distribution, fire alarm, and low-voltage installations. Coordinate electrical layouts with architectural, structural, mechanical, and plumbing models to confirm that all systems are properly integrated and compatible.
• Review BIM models for potential clashes and recommend practical solutions for conflicts involving electrical equipment and installations. Produce detailed construction documents, shop drawings, and system specifications directly from the BIM models.
• Verify that all electrical designs meet company guidelines, National Electrical Code requirements, project specifications, and client expectations. Support the preparation of electrical schedules, material quantity takeoffs, and additional project documentation.
• Provide technical assistance to project teams and participate in BIM coordination meetings with clients, contractors, engineers, and other stakeholders. Maintain well-organized BIM files and revise models as project designs and field conditions change throughout each phase of construction.

Electrical BIM Coordinator Qualifications

• An associate or bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Drafting, Construction Management, or a closely related discipline is preferred. Candidates should have at least four years of experience working as a BIM Drafter, BIM Coordinator, or in a comparable position, ideally supporting electrical construction projects.
• The position requires strong proficiency with BIM platforms such as Revit, Navisworks, and BIM 360, along with experience using CAD software including AutoCAD. Applicants should possess a solid understanding of electrical systems, construction methods, and applicable industry standards.
• Successful candidates must demonstrate strong attention to detail, excellent organizational abilities, and the capacity to balance multiple assignments and deadlines. Clear communication and effective teamwork skills are also necessary for coordinating with project managers, engineers, field personnel, and other cross-functional team members.
• Professional certification in Revit or another BIM-related platform, such as an Autodesk Certified Professional credential, is preferred. Experience with electrical design programs, including AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN, is considered an advantage. Familiarity with prefabrication methods and modular construction practices is also beneficial.
