Travel Respiratory Therapist Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,670–$1,790
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks
• Start Date: November 23, 2026
• End Date: February 22, 2027
• Schedule: Night shifts, 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.
• Shift Duration: 12-hour nights
• Hours: 36 hours per week, with potential for 48 hours based on scheduling needs
• Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend
• Holiday Coverage: Must work two of the three designated winter holidays

Registered Respiratory Therapist Job Requirements

• Four years of respiratory therapy experience required; candidates with two or more years may be considered
• Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Active Virginia respiratory care license required by the start date; a pending license may be considered if a temporary license can be obtained before the assignment begins
• Adult critical care experience
• Trauma Level II experience required; Level I trauma experience preferred
• Epic charting experience required
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
• Adult Critical Care Specialty (ACCS) credential preferred
• Strong communication, clinical judgment, critical thinking, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
• Current influenza vaccination required

Adult Critical Care Respiratory Therapist Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive respiratory care for adult and geriatric patients across critical care and hospital service areas
• Assess respiratory status and respond promptly to changes in patient condition
• Manage invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation, including IMV, SIMV, CPAP, BiPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, and ventilator weaning
• Perform and interpret arterial blood gases and communicate findings to the care team
• Support airway management, including intubation assistance, extubation, tracheostomy care, suctioning, and troubleshooting high-pressure alarms
• Administer respiratory medications and therapies, including bronchodilators, inhaled steroids, nitric oxide, and other prescribed treatments
• Provide pulmonary hygiene, chest physiotherapy, airway clearance, and aerosol therapy
• Collect sputum specimens and assist with bronchoscopy and other respiratory procedures as assigned
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in Epic
• Collaborate proactively with physicians, nurses, and other members of the multidisciplinary care team
• Float between assigned respiratory therapy sections as needed while practicing within professional scope and maintaining high standards of patient care
