Registered Respiratory Therapist Job Requirements

• Valid Respiratory Therapist license or credential appropriate for practice in Ohio
• RRT credential or equivalent professional qualification
• Competency with invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation, oxygen delivery systems, aerosol therapies, and nebulizer equipment
• Ability to perform respiratory assessments, interpret relevant monitoring data, and communicate effectively with physicians and interdisciplinary care team members
• Strong clinical judgment, documentation skills, and commitment to patient safety

Respiratory Therapist Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients, recommend respiratory treatment plans, and provide care within the scope of professional practice
• Administer prescribed respiratory treatments, oxygen therapy, humidification, ventilation, aerosol medications, and nebulizer therapies
• Set up, test, operate, monitor, and maintain a variety of mechanical ventilators and respiratory equipment
• Perform suctioning, chest physiotherapy, tracheostomy care, and PleurX or similar chest drainage procedures as appropriate
• Assist with bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomy, chest tube placement, intubation, and extubation procedures
• Perform arterial punctures, oximetry, capnography, pulmonary function studies, 12-lead EKGs, and basic arrhythmia recognition
• Provide patient education regarding respiratory treatments, equipment, and discharge needs
• Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation in accordance with BLS and ACLS guidelines
• Document assessments, treatments, patient responses, test results, equipment checks, and charges accurately
• Coordinate with attending and pulmonary physicians and provide thorough shift-to-shift handoff communication
• Provide respiratory care and patient transport into and out of the facility as medically prescribed
