Histology Technician Job Requirements

• At least 1 year of recent histology laboratory experience
• ASCP certification as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL)
• Valid Florida laboratory license or applicable state-required authorization
• Strong knowledge of histology laboratory practices, tissue specimen handling, histopathology procedures, and quality standards
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with laboratory and clinical teams
• Successful completion of required pre-employment, compliance, and orientation requirements
• Two professional references from a direct supervisor, manager, assistant nurse manager, or department director

Histology Laboratory Responsibilities

• Process and prepare tissue specimens for microscopic examination and diagnostic evaluation
• Perform histology procedures including fixation, tissue processing, embedding, microtomy and sectioning, and staining according to laboratory protocols
• Operate and maintain histology equipment while following established quality-control procedures
• Review specimens and prepared slides for accuracy, completeness, and quality before distribution for pathologist evaluation
• Accurately document testing, specimen information, quality-control results, and laboratory activities
• Maintain compliance with laboratory safety, infection-prevention, regulatory, and specimen-identification standards
• Communicate effectively with pathologists, laboratory colleagues, and other members of the healthcare team
