PACU / Preoperative Registered Nurse (RN) – Travel Nursing Contract in Ithaca, NY

Join a collaborative perioperative team as a PACU Nurse and Preoperative Registered Nurse in Ithaca, New York. This on-site travel nursing opportunity supports a community hospital surgical program with seven operating rooms and a diverse range of specialties, including neurosurgery, plastics, ENT, breast, general, gynecologic, urologic, orthopedic, vascular, and endoscopic procedures. Travel RN Job Details

• Specialty: PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit), preoperative, and recovery nursing
• Location: Ithaca, New York
• Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,250–$2,370
• Contract: 13 weeks
• Start Date: January 3, 2027
• End Date: April 3, 2027
• Schedule: Shifts may range from 6:00 a.m.–6:30 p.m., 7:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m., 8:00 a.m.–8:30 p.m., or 9:00 a.m.–9:30 p.m.
• Call Requirement: Approximately three to four weeknight call shifts and one 24-hour weekend call in an eight-week period, subject to staffing needs
• Weeknight Call: 9:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.
• Weekend Call: 7:00 a.m.–7:00 a.m.
• Holiday Coverage: Holiday call is required
• Position Type: Travel Registered Nurse, on-site

PACU / Preoperative RN Job Requirements

• Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license
• At least 1 year of recent PACU, preoperative, post-anesthesia, or perioperative nursing experience
• Experience caring for patients before and after surgical procedures
• Strong patient assessment, clinical judgment, and patient-monitoring skills
• Ability to interpret cardiac rhythms and recognize changes in patient condition
• Willingness to participate in scheduled weeknight, weekend, and holiday call
• Successful completion of required competency evaluations and onboarding requirements

PACU Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide preoperative and post-anesthesia care for patients undergoing a broad range of surgical and procedural services
• Monitor patients during recovery, assess airway and hemodynamic status, and identify potential complications
• Administer medications and treatments safely while monitoring for therapeutic response and adverse effects
• Complete focused assessments, document patient progress, and communicate care needs to the interdisciplinary team
• Prepare patients for procedures and support safe transitions from recovery to the next level of care
• Respond to urgent patient needs during scheduled shifts and call coverage
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia professionals, procedural staff, and other members of the perioperative team
