Pulmonary and Critical Care Physician Requirements

• Current, active North Carolina physician license
• Current DEA registration
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications
• Clinical proficiency with the pulmonary and critical care procedures listed below
• Ability to provide on-site coverage and respond within 25 minutes while on call

Pulmonary and Critical Care Physician Responsibilities

• Provide pulmonary unit consultations and daily in-house call coverage
• Evaluate and manage patients with complex pulmonary and critical care needs
• Perform and interpret pulmonary function testing
• Manage invasive and non-invasive ventilation, including endotracheal tube, nasotracheal tube, tracheostomy, BiPAP, and CPAP ventilation
• Perform chest tube insertion, pleurodesis, central line insertion, arterial line insertion, thoracentesis, and pleural biopsy
• Perform diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy, including endotracheal biopsy, transbronchial biopsy, bronchoalveolar lavage, foreign body extraction, stent placement, and laser procedures
• Document patient contact hours, call-back activity, and any applicable overtime accurately in required timesheets
• Provide clear documentation supporting patient care and submitted call-back hours
