Travel Respiratory Therapist Job Details

Registered Respiratory Therapist Job Requirements

• At least 1 year of recent respiratory therapy experience in a hospital or comparable acute-care setting
• Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential or respiratory therapist certification appropriate for practice
• Valid authorization to practice respiratory care in Indiana, as required
• Current BLS and ACLS certification, or the ability to meet facility requirements before starting
• Strong patient assessment, communication, clinical documentation, and critical-thinking skills
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively with an interdisciplinary healthcare team
• Ability to work scheduled 12-hour night shifts in an on-site hospital environment

Respiratory Therapist Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients, develop or contribute to respiratory treatment plans, and assess responses to respiratory therapy
• Administer prescribed respiratory treatments using invasive and non-invasive ventilation, oxygen, aerosol, nebulizer, and humidification devices
• Operate, set up, test, maintain, and monitor mechanical ventilators and related respiratory care equipment
• Perform airway management, suctioning, chest physiotherapy, tracheostomy care, and endotracheal tube insertion or removal according to policy
• Perform oximetry, capnography, arterial punctures, pulmonary function measurements, 12-lead EKGs, and basic arrhythmia recognition
• Assist with respiratory-related procedures such as bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomy, chest tube placement, and chest drainage when indicated
• Provide patient and family education regarding respiratory treatments, equipment, and care needs at discharge
• Respond to cardiopulmonary emergencies and perform resuscitation in accordance with BLS and ACLS guidelines
• Document assessments, treatments, patient responses, test results, charges, and pertinent clinical information accurately
• Communicate effectively with physicians and healthcare team members during care coordination and shift handoffs
• Support respiratory equipment maintenance, quality control, and compliance with respiratory care policies and procedures
