Hospital Food Service Worker Job Requirements

• Previous healthcare food service experience required
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Food Service Aide certification or equivalent training

• Ability to follow prescribed diets, allergy precautions, and patient meal instructions
• Ability to work rotating daytime shifts and perform physical tasks such as standing, lifting, stocking, cleaning, and pushing food service equipment

Hospital Dietary Services Responsibilities

• Prepare, assemble, and deliver patient meals, snacks, nourishments, and special diet items according to prescribed diets and documented allergies.
• Assist patients with menu selections while considering food allergies, sensitivities, cultural preferences, ethnic preferences, and religious preferences.
• Prepare cold food items such as salads, sandwiches, desserts, snacks, and nourishments; assist with hot food preparation as needed.
• Update diet changes in the patient diet management system and print or distribute menus, meal tickets, tallies, and related reports.
• Follow sanitation, infection control, risk management, and HACCP procedures to maintain safe hospital food service operations.
• Record food, refrigeration, dish machine, and sanitizer temperatures accurately.
• Complete cleaning duties, including ware washing, sweeping, mopping, trash removal, and equipment cleaning.
• Stock nourishment rooms and kitchen supplies using first-in, first-out inventory rotation; remove expired products.
• Support cafeteria operations, including serving, grilling, stocking, cleaning, and cash handling.
• Operate, clean, and maintain food service equipment according to safety guidelines.
• Communicate patient care and food service concerns to departmental leadership while maintaining patient privacy.
• Promote a safe environment by following workplace safety procedures and reporting hazards promptly.
• Provide courteous, helpful service to patients, visitors, and members of the care team.
