Operating Room RN Job Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Iowa
• At least 1 year of recent operating room nursing experience
• Operating room nursing certification or specialty credentials as required for verification
• Strong understanding of perioperative nursing standards, sterile technique, and patient safety practices
• Ability to collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nurses, and surgical technologists
• Successful completion of required professional, occupational health, background, and competency clearances

Operating Room Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide skilled Registered Nurse care throughout the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases of surgical procedures
• Prepare operating rooms, equipment, supplies, and instruments according to procedure requirements
• Maintain strict sterile technique and monitor the surgical environment for safety and compliance
• Coordinate with the surgical team to promote efficient, organized patient care
• Assess patients, anticipate clinical needs, and respond promptly to changes in condition
• Administer medications and treatments within scope of practice and established protocols
• Accurately document patient care, surgical counts, specimen handling, and other perioperative activities
• Support safe patient positioning, transfers, infection prevention, and recovery processes
