OB/GYN Laborist Physician Requirements

• Medical degree and current physician licensure appropriate for practice in California
• At least 1 year of experience practicing in obstetrics and gynecology; strong laborist experience preferred
• Board certification in the required specialty; minimum certification status required
• Current BLS and PALS certifications
• Ability to provide 100 case logs promptly for credentialing review
• Demonstrated competence in routine and complicated obstetric care, including cesarean delivery and emergency decision-making
• Ability to comply with professional dress standards, including hospital-issued scrubs while on duty
• Compliance with a natural-nails-only policy; artificial nails, overlays, gels, tips, wraps, and other enhancements are not permitted

OB/GYN Laborist Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive care for low-risk pregnancies and manage high-risk pregnancies as needed
• Interpret fetal heart rate monitoring, including NST, CST, and FSE evaluations
• Perform and interpret Level I obstetric ultrasounds; Level II or targeted ultrasound experience is preferred
• Manage routine vaginal deliveries, including low-forceps deliveries, and make timely decisions regarding cesarean delivery
• Manage complicated deliveries, including cesarean sections, breech presentations, multiple births, and placental abruptions
• Repair third- and fourth-degree obstetric lacerations
• Perform office and minor gynecologic procedures, including IUD placement, cystoscopy, colposcopy, cryosurgery, and LEEP
• Perform open and laparoscopic gynecologic procedures, including tubal ligation, lysis of adhesions, ectopic pregnancy treatment, oophorectomy, cystectomy, and extensive lysis of adhesions
• Document patient care accurately and collaborate with the interdisciplinary obstetrics and gynecology team
