Cardiac Stepdown Travel RN Job Details

• Duration: Approximately 16 weeks, with potential assignment flexibility
• Schedule: 36 hours per week; 12-hour night shifts
• Weekend Requirement: At least every other weekend, or as adjusted to meet unit and patient-care needs
• Holiday Requirement: Work two of the following three holiday periods: Thanksgiving, Christmas/Christmas Eve, and New Year's Day/New Year's Eve
• Scheduling: No block scheduling; schedule is based on patient-care and staffing needs

Cardiac Stepdown RN Job Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse license in New York, or proof of an active New York license application with the application date included at submission
• At least 1 year of telemetry nursing experience
• Prior progressive care, intermediate care, ICU, or critical care nursing experience required
• Experience caring for patients receiving insulin drips and cardiac medication infusions
• Experience with IV starts and post-cardiac catheterization care
• Current American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certifications
• NIHSS certification required before the start date
• Epic experience within the past 2 years
• Ability to provide complete employment history and explain any employment gaps longer than 90 days
• Reliable personal transportation or a rental vehicle is strongly recommended due to limited public transportation in the area
• All-season or snow tires are recommended during the November–April winter season

Cardiac Stepdown Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients on a cardiac stepdown and progressive care unit
• Perform continuous telemetry monitoring and recognize changes in cardiac and clinical status
• Manage patients receiving insulin and cardiac medication infusions according to clinical protocols
• Perform focused nursing assessments, medication administration, IV starts, and ongoing reassessments
• Provide care for patients recovering from cardiac catheterization procedures
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and the interdisciplinary care team to support safe patient outcomes
• Occasionally provide ICU support and float to meet staffing and patient-care needs
• Document nursing care accurately in Epic and communicate effectively during patient handoffs
• Participate in weekend and holiday coverage as scheduled
