Travel Respiratory Therapist Job Details

Registered Respiratory Therapist Job Requirements

• At least 1 year of respiratory therapy experience in a hospital or comparable acute-care setting
• Current Respiratory Therapist license or credential meeting applicable state requirements
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential or equivalent qualification
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications
• Competency with invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation, oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, suctioning, and airway management
• Ability to assess patients, develop or implement respiratory treatment plans, document care accurately, and communicate effectively with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare teams
• Ability to work independently and respond effectively during urgent and emergent situations

Respiratory Therapist Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed and within the scope of professional practice
• Evaluate patients and recommend or implement appropriate respiratory treatment plans
• Operate, monitor, and maintain invasive and non-invasive ventilators, oxygen delivery systems, aerosol devices, and nebulizers
• Perform suctioning, chest physiotherapy, tracheostomy care, endotracheal tube insertion and removal, and other airway management procedures according to policy
• Perform oximetry, capnography, arterial puncture, pulmonary function measurements, 12-lead EKGs, and basic arrhythmia recognition
• Assist with bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomy, chest tube placement, and other respiratory-related procedures
• Provide chest drainage care when applicable, including management of PleurX or similar devices
• Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation in accordance with BLS and ACLS guidelines
• Explain treatments, tests, and equipment to patients and provide respiratory care education before discharge
• Document assessments, treatments, patient responses, charges, and test results accurately in the medical record
• Communicate patient status and treatment effectiveness to attending and pulmonary physicians and provide thorough shift-to-shift handoff reports
• Complete equipment setup and self-testing, identify maintenance needs, and perform other respiratory therapy duties as assigned
