RN Resident Care Director – Assisted Living & Memory Care

Location: Essex County, NJ
Employment Type: Full-Time | Permanent
Compensation: Up to $140,000 Base Salary + 12–15% Annual Bonus

Lead with Purpose. Make a Difference. Grow Your Career.

Are you an experienced RN leader looking for an opportunity where your clinical expertise, leadership style, and ability to connect with people truly matter?

A distinguished, mansion-style Assisted Living and Memory Care community in Essex County, NJ, is seeking an RN Resident Care Director to lead its Health & Wellness department.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a community with strong overall performance, an established leadership team, and a culture that values relationships, emotional intelligence, and exceptional resident experiences.

We’re looking for more than a strong clinician. We want a visible, approachable nursing leader who enjoys building relationships with residents and families, developing team members, and creating a positive, supportive care environment.

Why You'll Want to Explore This Opportunity

  • Earn up to $140,000 in base salary, based on experience

  • 12–15% annual bonus opportunity

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance

  • 403(b) retirement savings plan

  • Tuition reimbursement

  • Work alongside an experienced, long-tenured leadership team

  • Lead a high-visibility clinical department where your ideas and leadership make an impact

  • Build meaningful relationships with residents, families, and team members

  • Grow your career within Assisted Living and Memory Care leadership

A Leadership Role with the Right Balance

As Resident Care Director, you’ll lead clinical operations while remaining connected to the people who make the community special. The role is approximately 60% administrative leadership and 40% resident and floor engagement.

You’ll partner with the Wellness Nurse, oversee a team of approximately 8–10 RNs and Medication Technicians, and collaborate with community leadership to support high-quality care and a positive resident experience.

Your key areas of responsibility include:

  • Overseeing clinical operations, resident assessments, care planning, and regulatory compliance

  • Coaching, mentoring, and developing the nursing and clinical team

  • Leading staffing, scheduling, onboarding, and performance management

  • Monitoring clinical quality, quality improvement initiatives, budgets, and labor costs

  • Building strong relationships with residents and families through a visible, approachable leadership presence

  • Coordinating resident care with physicians, hospice, pharmacy, therapy, and other healthcare partners

  • Participating in weekly physician rounds and monitoring changes in resident condition

  • Promoting a culture of accountability, compassion, resident dignity, and clinical excellence

Who We're Looking For

We welcome experienced RN leaders who bring strong clinical judgment, sound leadership skills, and a genuine passion for working with seniors.

Potential backgrounds include:

  • Resident Care Directors and Wellness Directors

  • Assistant Directors of Nursing (ADONs)

  • RN Supervisors and Nurse Managers

  • Assisted Living and Memory Care nursing leaders

  • Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) and Long-Term Care nurse leaders

  • RN leaders from Hospice, Home Health, or Corrections with relevant clinical leadership experience

Required Qualifications

  • Active New Jersey RN license

  • At least 2 years of RN experience in Assisted Living, Long-Term Care, or Memory Care

  • At least 1 year of nursing leadership experience, such as RN Supervisor, Nurse Manager, ADON, Wellness Nurse, or similar

  • Knowledge of Assisted Living regulations, resident assessments, service planning, and clinical compliance

  • Current CPR and First Aid certification

  • EMR proficiency

  • Strong communication, organization, coaching, and relationship-building skills

The Leadership Style That Makes a Difference

The right person for this role understands that exceptional senior care goes beyond clinical oversight. It takes a leader who listens, communicates effectively, earns trust, supports the team, and helps residents and families feel confident in the care they receive.

If you’re an RN leader who values both clinical excellence and meaningful human connection, this could be the next step you’ve been looking for.
