Job description

Position: Maintenance Technician / Combined Craft Mechanic (Direct Hire)
Location: Wallingford, CT
Pay: Starting at $45.28/hr

AimHire is hiring Process Operators for an established chemical manufacturer in central Connecticut! This company makes materials that help everyday products last longer and hold up better, and its work reaches a wide range of industries.

They want a hands-on, versatile mechanic who likes solving mechanical problems and wants to be a key part of plant reliability and safety. In this role you’ll install, inspect, maintain, and repair a wide range of plant equipment and infrastructure, including piping, pumps, valves, cranes, and hoists. You’ll work closely with supervisors, team leads, and other teams to troubleshoot issues and support continuous improvement. It’s a great fit if you’re comfortable in a working chemical plant, can manage several tasks on your own, and hold a welding certification.

This is an on-site, direct hire position starting at $45.28/hr. Scheduled raises bring you to $49.28/hr within 18 months:

  • +$2.00/hr at 6 months
  • +$1.00/hr at 12 months
  • +$1.00/hr at 18 months

The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm, with an occasional Saturday. Benefits include:

  • Full medical coverage
  • A 401(k) with a dollar-for-dollar match up to 6%
  • 2 weeks of vacation (prorated the first year), 3 sick days, and 11 paid holidays
  • A local bonus plan

Responsibilities

  • Install, inspect, take apart, repair, and maintain plant equipment, including piping systems, pumps, valves, and emergency equipment, making sure everything is properly aligned and tested
  • Fabricate, lay out, build, and repair piping, structural steel, wooden structures, and minor refractory or concrete structures
  • Inspect gearboxes, slings, hoists, cranes, and rigging systems, and support repairs as needed
  • Remove and replace insulation when assembling, taking apart, and repairing pipes and fittings
  • Support wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) operations when needed, including running presses and doing tasks that don’t require certification (such as installing liners in waste roll-offs)
  • Use the right tools and equipment for each task, including automatic welding machines once qualified
  • Communicate and coordinate with other departments and plant staff, and keep updates and documentation accurate
  • Follow all safety and environmental procedures, help other crafts, and take on other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Welding certification (required)
  • 3–5 years of experience in piping and/or equipment repair
  • Familiarity with technical standards for process piping, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and storage tanks
  • Chemical manufacturing experience preferred
  • Ability to work independently, quickly assess problems, find workable solutions, and meet deadlines across many tasks
  • Ability to read and write in English to complete documentation and follow instructions
  • Ability to exert up to 40 lbs of force occasionally and 30 lbs frequently, and to stand and walk for much of the shift
  • Good or corrected-to-normal vision, and hearing sufficient to understand and process information
  • Must live locally (no relocation assistance)
