Job description
Paint Process Technician Job Summary Hoyt is hiring a Paint Process Technician in West Valley City to keep production moving and finish quality sharp — earning $25–$28 per hour on a 4-day workweek. This is a hands-on technical role where you'll do real painting work while also serving as the go-to problem solver for defects, equipment issues, and process improvements across multiple coating systems. What You'll Do
- Apply primer, base coat, clear coat, and other water-based and solvent-based coatings using HVLP spray guns across wet spray, powder coat, and hydrographic finishing systems
- Mix, measure, and reduce coatings according to Technical Data Sheets (TDS) and established specifications using paint scales and Plural Component Mixing Systems
- Diagnose finish defects — runs, sags, orange peel, fisheyes, adhesion failures, contamination, and color variation — and identify whether the root cause is material, equipment, surface prep, or process
- Adjust process and equipment parameters within established specs to restore finish quality and keep production on track
- Troubleshoot spray guns, pumps, regulators, fluid-delivery systems, and mixing equipment; partner with Maintenance when advanced repair is needed
- Perform routine cleaning, setup, calibration checks, and preventive maintenance on paint equipment and booths
- Inspect finished products against Hoyt quality and appearance standards; perform rework and guide other painters on repair techniques
- Coach team members on spray technique, equipment setup, defect recognition, and safe material handling
- Hands-on experience applying industrial, manufacturing, or automotive coatings — wet spray, powder coat, or both
- Proficiency with HVLP spray guns and the ability to troubleshoot basic pneumatic and fluid-delivery systems
- Ability to read and apply Technical Data Sheets, Safety Data Sheets, mix ratios, and coating specifications
- Strong painter's eye — you can spot a finish defect and trace it back to its source
- Comfortable working with hazardous materials, following SDS requirements, PPE protocols, and respirator procedures
- Experience with Plural Component Mixing Systems
- Working knowledge of hydrofilm or hydrographic finishing processes
- Background in a manufacturing or production paint environment
